Job Summary:
The Vice President of Medical Education provides strategic leadership and oversight for Thrive Pet Healthcare’s enterprise-wide medical education, mentorship, and safety programs. This role ensures doctors, technicians, and hospital teams are supported through high-quality, scalable programs that drive clinical excellence, retention, and a culture of continuous learning. The role partners closely with the VPs of Medical Operations, VP of Emergency, and VP of Hospital Operations ensuring seamless alignment between medical education programs, clinical performance, and hospital operations. The VP of Medical Education also collaborates across People Operations, Recruiting, Learning & Development, and Legal to align education, mentorship, and safety initiatives with Thrive’s broader strategic goals. Direct reports to this position include the Director of Mentorship Programs, National Technician Director, and the Director of House Officer Relations. In Thrive’s matrixed organizational structure, this position also provides indirect leadership to various lanes within Medical Education, including but not limited to Medical Initiatives (education and clinical development), House Officer Programs, House Officer Relations, and Team and Patient Safety (TAPS). This is a highly visible and strategic leadership position, responsible for shaping the vision and execution of clinical development programs that strengthen Thrive’s medical community and advance standards of veterinary care across more than 360 hospitals nationwide.
- Lead the strategic design and expansion of medical education, mentorship, and advanced GP initiatives (e.g., dental, ultrasound, etc.) to elevate clinical excellence and professional growth.
- Develop and implement frameworks that align with Thrive’s enterprise goals for retention, competency, and workforce development.
- Oversee the creation and delivery of curricula, continuing education content, and structured mentorship for doctors and technicians.
- Provide support to the TAPS Committee
- Help support and strengthen academic partnerships with veterinary schools and technician programs to enhance recruitment and brand visibility. · Partner with executive and field leaders to identify organizational needs, measure outcomes, and inform data-driven program improvement.
- Lead the Medical Director training program and assist in development of monthly presentations aimed at strengthening the Medical Director/Practice Manager partnership.
- Lead, coach, and develop a cross-functional team of directors and program managers to ensure accountability, alignment, and growth.
- Build strong relationships with doctors, technicians, and hospital leaders to ensure education and mentorship programs meet real-world needs.
- Promote a culture of mentorship, recognition, and psychological safety, fostering belonging and engagement throughout the organization.
- Champion clinician wellness through programs that prioritize confidence, connection, and professional sustainability.
- Collaborate with the Operations team to implement mentorship, education, and safety programs at the hospital level, ensuring scalability, consistency, and impact.
- Manage and assist in creating program content, adoption, and performance measurement across the enterprise.
- Ensure compliance with all regulatory and accreditation standards governing education, research, and safety.
- Collaborate with Finance, Recruiting, HR, Legal, and other departments to optimize execution and resource alignment.
- Present program performance metrics, risk assessments, and strategic recommendations to the Executive Leadership Team and key stakeholders.
- Board certification in a specialty discipline required; active veterinary license preferred.
- 10+ years of progressive leadership in veterinary education, clinical operations, or medical program development.
- Proven success leading national or enterprise-level medical education or operational programs.
- Strong understanding of veterinary academic systems, mentorship frameworks, and safety compliance standards.
