Job Summary 
Under the direction of a Registered Nurse, the Nursing Assistant provides support to the patient by assisting with basic care for daily living including bathroom assistance, bathing, maintaining hygiene, changing bedding, turning and repositioning, assisting in ambulation, serving and assisting with meals, and obtaining vital signs.

Essential Duties 
 
  1. Participates in fire and other disaster plans as directed. 
  1. Work subject to frequent interruptions and multitasking. 
  1. Adheres to HIPAA guidelines and Hospital Policy 
  1. Independently performs and documents duties as assigned under the direction of the Registered Nurse 
  1. Reports observations of a patient to a Registered Nurse. 
  1. Promotes personal and patient safety. 
  1. Knows the physical requirements of the job and works within those guidelines. 
  1. Performs job duties safely at all times, utilizing learned body mechanics and transferring/lifting techniques. 
  1. Wears correct personal protective equipment when appropriate. 
  1. Plans actions to promote safety. 
  1. Reports any unsafe situation/equipment according to system procedure. 
  1. Adheres to infection-control policies and protocols 
  1. Completes the required competencies and training. 
  1. Encouraged to attend unit staff meetings, in-service programs, workshops, and seminars to maintain current knowledge in clinical practice and patient safety. 
  1. Adheres to hospital policy and procedures 
  1. Assists with patient transport within the hospital 
  1. Completes tasks in a timely manner. 
  1. Offers assistance to others when time is available. 
  1. Declutters room and stocks required patient care material per unit guidelines. 
  1. Performs other duties and responsibilities as assigned 
  1. Accepts reassignment as needed to provide necessary care for all patients. 
  
  
  
 
Work Environment and Physical Requirements 
May be required to lift more than 35 pounds. 
  
  
  
 
Reports To 
Under the general supervision of the Unit Manager, receives delegation from a Registered Nurse. 
No managerial or supervisory responsibilities.
